Is it even right to post three times in one day? As I'm laughing at myself I'm tasting something heartwarming and gormet on my tongue. Spaetzle (spet-s-lah) or german home-made pasta. This is something that our whole family enjoys and brings back memories of one of our dearest family friends, Carina. She stayed with my family during my senior year of high school and we've remained close since. She even suprised me and flew over for the wedding- I bawled like a baby when I found out- I felt like God had hit my heart with a love mallet and poured all his love for me into the wide open hole that the mallet created. Kind of a violent way to describe something to tender. However, I was looking for what might be tasty for Jon and I to eat for dinner, and found cheesy pasta in my Italian cookbook. Well, this led to thinking of Spaetzle. Recently I've unknowingly (sort-of) pleaded to enjoy the art of cooking so that we'll eat something more than macaroni and cheese by Kraft. The idea of home cooked meals is also something that brings my husband great joy and lets him know that I take my job as wife seriously by loving him through being adventerous in the kitchen.
So as I'm blogging this I'm multi-tasking. For women this is a common necesity. I've been chatting on the phone with my dear friend Aubrey, making Spaetzle, and blogging...
I have a new found respect for German women. Making hand-made/home-made pasta is hard work! Do not try this unless you've got about 1.5 hours. Obviously it's a great thing to multi-task with. The dough, unless you've turned the temps way to high, is not highly demanding. So, as I boil some, I fry some, as I cut some more... pretty simple. As it saute's on low I blog, and reverse. I like it. If you want the recipe, google "german pasta recipe" and click on the first link. Simple. So far it tastes very good. I am glad however that I watched Carina make a few batches because it does require more flour than mentioned (by 1/2 c.); I also know what it's suposed to look like (which is not what Carina says it should). Cooks, fear not. Though it helps to have a Spaetzle maker, which Carina bestowed on me as a wedding gift knowing that I love this stuff, it's not neccesary. Just flour everything up and use your fingers to make little catterpiller-like rolls.
Well, now I'm very ravenous and drooling. I do have to wait ti'll Jon gets home to eat it, however, I'lll write no more. I'll post pictures of the mess later.
