Beauty for Ashes

"The world is so full of a number of things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings."
I often need to be reminded of this. It's been extremely gloomy around this part of the state, weather-wise. Cold, rain, and yuck. I love it! In sweat-shirt, jeans and tennis-shoe weather I thrive. I like the sound of rain and the feeling of moisture in the air. I've never been a soul to love the desert- in any part of my life. Saturation and high humidity are things I enjoy (minus the humidity with heat). Even so, with all my liking for yucky weather, things can start to appear dull and grey. As I look into my kitchen where both floor and wall are the same color as the refrigerator I must learn to see something beautiful. I can see my jade plant on top of the refrigerator, and though there is a lack of sunshine, and few windows, I can still see the green. It tells me things are alive and well. This picture shows me that even though this plant is a desert plant (ironically in need of watering at the moment) it is still green and it has retained it's water.
When I stop and look at even the most bland things, there is still beauty and life when I take the time to see it. The way I see things can be distorted, but when I choose to take on a new perspective, or a new attitude, or just repent (literal meaning; to rethink) then I can find beauty and life wherever I look. My life, my day-to-day can and will look so much more appealing when I choose to look at it in terms of what I've been given versus what I do not have. Any dreary, gloomy situation will look so much better when I have chosen to look for the beautiful things.
