What is it about sitting and thinking, wandering aimlessly for a while? It amuses us when we get to do nothing and let our minds be free from daily activities, planning, and worry.
There is always an "about me" spot on a web page or application. Why is that? I think it is because people are interested in who you are. Though we may say "how are you?" in passing with the inention of not really wanting a full answer, there is still part of the human complex that wishes to know people for who they really are; bad qualities included.
I happen to be a stay-at-home-soon-to-be-mom (but this is only because school is over for the summer and we have one car) who other than cooking and cleaning virtually has no responsibilities. Some days I loathe this and on others it is very freeing. Often I pose the question to my husband, "Is there anything you want me to do today?" Usually he says no. On occasion there is a bill to be paid and he'll remind me of that. The majority of the time his answer revolves around the basic concept of taking my time to take advantage of my surroundings. Today I did just that.
I put on my Indian beach pants, packed a blanket, journal, water and a few other things and headed down to the beach that is in our back yard ( I never thought about this, but I live on a lake...). There I started journaling, stopped because my wrist/arm/hand became fatigued, and took a short nap. This lasted only so long because my ever active and pondering mind took a ride on the scenery around me. I read a book, cried a little; thought of the people I love. It didn't take long before my hand aimlesly wandered to the sand beside me and dug a hole. I started thinking of the simple sensations in life that I miss everyday because I didn't take a minute or ten to let myself just be.
I have a feeling that when we stop to "smell the roses", get to ask ourselves "how am I?" and enjoy the active life we lead, God is somehow honored in that. We stop to think about our relationships and ponder what truly makes us happy. The outcome for me? God's grace in our lives in regards to daily things...

Thanks for sharing your lives. Jon sounds so much like Roger in that he's the one who gets me to slow down and just "be". I'm usually charging ahead to be productive.
Thank goodness for balancers.
But one car, frustrating as it was for me sometimes, did narrow down the options...and sometimes I needed that...then I could focus on whatever was immediate....Marilee
