My most recent interest these days is exploring the world of Doulas (in simple terms, a labor coach). I'm not exploring this for Jon and I, we'll have enough people in the room already and Jon is my primary coach (bashful smile).
No, I've been considering actually becoming a Doula and working in a birthing center. Just an idea to explore for now. I have a friend who is now a maternity nurse who is also a Doula and loves it. I'm thinking I would be gaining great experience for becoming a CNM (certified nurse midwife) someday, and learning a lot of "hands on" basics of delivery in general (outside of my personal deliveries).
Sometimes employers will not hire an individual because they are over-qulified, too many certifications or degrees etc. But,when it comes to picking a healthcare professional to handle your healthcare needs,I would want someone with lots of experience who has a grasp on what they're doing. In my mind lots of hands on experience is never over qualified.
We'll see if I actually catch this rabbit running down the trails of my brain...

Erin,
Can you send me your email?
I need to get your home address for Kari's baby shower
My cousin is also thinking about doing Doula training...everything she has told me about it sounds really cool! Right now she gives hand/foot massages to women at Woodwinds (is that the name of it?) before or after their delivery.
